What is Hazardous Waste?

The term "hazardous waste" refers to various types of waste that possess specific hazardous characteristics. Hazardous waste requires special disposal methods and procedures to ensure the safe and environmentally sound destruction of harmful substances.

The POP regulation on recovery and disposal documentation primarily governs the formalized monitoring of hazardous waste disposal. This is carried out through the use of disposal certificates, consignment notes, and acceptance notes.

The disposal certificate, involving the waste producer, the waste disposal company, and the relevant authority, is used to pre-verify the environmental compatibility of the proposed disposal method. The entire certification process is conducted electronically. You can find out exactly how it works here.
